Creating a Community Library

Hello – I am Shell and I curate the Haydon Hill Little Library!

From a young age I always read books – encouraged by mum and grandma. I visited the library and (back then) the mobile library too and loved the worlds to explore that the books contained in them.

I believe that reading should be free for all, and can provide solace and escapism in a busy, frazzled world. This is what inspired me to fund and curate my own community library at the end of my driveway for Haydon Hill, which in time grew in popularity. Over the years more local community libraries are popping up – which is fabulous and good to see. They are a great accessible way to encourage people to read, and to reach those who are not as mobile too.

Over the years, the library has had an upgrade to be a solid unit (with thanks to a successful business case application to the Haydon Hill Community Association), has solid foundations and new signage thanks to Lynne and River!

I love curating the library, and contributing to my local community by promoting the joy of reading to all. So pop by our library @ 21 Constable Place or your local library, give that book a go, take books, leave books, leave some or none – it does not matter – just enjoy and happy reading!
