Update from Thames Water

The good news is that both digesters are commissioned and ready to use. However, Thames Water have experienced unforeseen issues in commissioning some of the heating systems associated with the digesters and they are now having to replace them. That replacement will not be complete till March 2026

Until then they will be producing both raw and digested cake through the sludge process. There will still be odour suppression and, with less odour to suppress and the natural reduction of the problem with cooler winter temperature it is hoped that there will be few problems – time will tell!

The new system is producing some of the new product and this will increase progressively as the heating systems are worked on. However, Thames Wate have warned that they may have to revert back to raw at some times.

At the end of the project, we will be able to treat sludge, to power the site and that produces digested cake to be recycled as organic fertiliser for farmer’s land.
